Thermopolis, Anchor Dam

I took this photo driving outside of Thermopolis, Wyoming on a back two-lane; it was summer and hot and I was loving it!

A pumping oil well on top of a high ridge east of Thermopolis.

Old cars were put along a bank of Owl Creek to fortify the bank.

Big Horn River in Thermopolis.  August - brown grassy hills.  Hills have scoria rock in them; thats why they have red tops.

I made this montage of photos I took in and around Thermopolis; some are of Wind River Canyon.

Don't know if this camping area is accessible yet with the snow from the mountains melting, but imagine the waters are roaring like this with the warm weather we've been having.  Supposed to be in mid-70s this weekend in Thermop!!!

This town haunts me...beckons me...I love the Great Basin and all of the wonderful things to explore there...

Downtown Thermop.  I even miss the IGA grocery store there!  They have the best produce.

This is the reservoir by Anchor Dam - a failed dam.  The Army Corps of Engineers built it and it was found to have holes.  Sinkholes.  So every Spring it fills with water from the mountain snowmelt runoff, and then by June it is dry as a bone - empty of water!  If I wanted to go camping you must drive along that dirt road in the photo, so I might check it out to see if it's safe to venture down there.

Dreaming of Hot Springs This Weekend

What am I dreaming about tonight?
Well, the hot springs in Thermopolis, Wyoming for one!

Wonder if they've put the tipi back up yet so I can camp out in it?

I'm long overdue for a long soak/swim in the hot springs - sure does a body good!!!!!!!!
